China and the United States emerged as India's top importers of seafood, while frozen shrimp continued to be the country's top export in terms of both quantity and value. The export increased by 2.67% in terms of quantity during FY 2023–2024. 17,35,286 MT of seafood valued at ?63,969.14 crore (US$8,094.31 million) were exported by India in 2022–2023.

"Despite a number of difficulties in its main export markets, such as the United States, the European Union, and the United Kingdom, India achieved an all-time high export volume by shipping 17,81,602 MT of seafood valued at US$ 7.38 billion," stated Shri D V Swamy IAS, Chairman, Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA).

With revenues of ?40,013.54 crore (US$4881.27 million), or 40.19% of the total quantity and 66.12% of the total dollar earnings, frozen shrimp continued to be the top item in the seafood export basket. In terms of quantity, shrimp exports rose by 0.69% throughout that time.
